Lamar Raine Artist Profile

From a graphic design background, Lamar Raine came to Europe in 1971 and worked in the advertising and publishing industry. When she had children, portraiture became the main focus of her art, using conté crayon for her expressive and reflective drawings. This is a type of chalk developed in the 18th century. Although a specialist in children’s portraiture, any age is considered.

Working from life with only a one hour sitting she aims to capture the essence of her sitters, ideally in their own home where she will travel to make the preliminary sketches and photographs. Destinations outside the M25 around London add a 'Travel Expense' to the total fees. The sketches are like important notes, with the photographs for reference only, and are then used as the basis for her finished drawing, which is then produced in her London studio and delivered within one month. Her materials are all acid free, museum quality. Lamar is regularly commissioned throughout Britain, Barbados and America and her work can be viewed in several London galleries.

"In an effort to launch young artists, I have formed my 'Stable Artist's Group'. These are talented individuals needing the right path towards commissions in watercolour. I work with them on paintings for the many house portraits coming in so these new pieces of artwork are collaborative. I hope to give gifted artists some stability in going forward while at the same time keeping myself stable with my work flow and then of course, the artwork is still an original out of my own studio or 'stable.'
