Before beginning a work, the drawing is discussed in depth either in person, by phone, via letter or email. Preliminary sketches are made and photography may be used for reference. This approach guarantees a sensitive and highly finished drawing in her chosen medium, conté crayon, a type of chalk. Lamar Raine is commissioned extensively throughout Britain, Barbados and America and her work can be viewed in several London galleries.

‘I think it is of primary importance to make every effort to capture the essence of a person in my portraiture. It helps to arrange the sitting in one’s home as most of us are more comfortable in our own surroundings.  I then ensure the drawing is a work that will stand the test of time to be enjoyed by many generations to come.’
Once the commission is to proceed, a date is arranged for the sitting. Only a one hour sitting is required, during which some reference photographs are taken and the essential sketches made. These are taken back to the studio where a finished drawing is worked up measuring approximately 58 x 49 cm. A month later the completed portrait is delivered in a washlined, bevelled mount, hand-crafted on acid free museum board with hinged backing.

Fees start from around £1950 unframed. A framing service is offered with a choice of mouldings at varying prices and delivery can be arranged to your home. For further framing information, please click here.
